Welcome to Surbiton HILL Nursery School
“Every child, Every chance, Every day!”
“Surbiton Hill Nursery’s motto is, ‘Every child, every chance, every day’. Nothing could
better capture this school and its ethos. Children come into school happily, they get
straight to work, both inside and outside. Their experiences do not end in the classroom.
Visits out in the local environment broaden children’s experiences. These include to the
library, the supermarket and the park. ” Ofsted report JUNE 2025
Our Nursery is the only maintained nursery school within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Local Authority. We were graded as OUTSTANDING by Ofsted for the sixth time in June 2025. This means our Nursery has been graded as outstanding for more than 25 years!
We are in essence an outdoor Nursery with a beautiful and exciting outdoor space for the children to learn and thrive in. We follow the forest school principles in all we do and have daily opportunities for the children to extend their skills in all weathers celebrating the seasonal approach to the curriculum and being led by the interests of the children themselves.
We offer Outstanding education and care as a part of the 15 hours universal offer for three and four year old’s. This is term time only.
We also offer additional hours as a part of “30 hours for working parents” during term time. We also offer paid places for 3-4 year old’s only between 8am-6pm for working parents.
We have a specialist provision for children with Social Communication difficulties, there are 22 places for this specialist provision and they are allocated by the Local Authority. Hello, I’m Esther White Head Teacher of Surbiton Hill Nursery School. I’ve worked at the Nursery since 2012 as Deputy and Acting Head before becoming Head teacher in March 2019. I feel very proud to be the Headteacher of this unique school and to work alongside such experienced staff and wonderful children. Our school ethos encompasses Nurture and Nature and we all believe that every child has the chance to shine!
Surbiton Hill Nursery School opened in 1971. In 2021 we celebrated 50 golden years of the Nursery School in the Surbiton community!
“This is an exceptional learning environment. The members of the early years team are
experts at planning the curriculum and creating learning opportunities that enable all
